The Divine Master Plan

A month before Divine's death in March 1988, the film "Hairspray" is released, and the performer's dreams of becoming a "respected" actor were finally coming true. He's lands a guest role on the 90s TV series "Married... With Children." The day before his death, he spends it rehearsing for his appearance at Sunset Gower Studios (1438 N Gower St.). Divine stays at the Regency Plaza Suites Hotel in Los Angeles (7940 Hollywood Blvd. - the hotel is demolished in '07) and enjoys dinner with some friends at the hotel's restaurant. Afterward, he retires to his room, where he dies in his sleep. Divine suffers from an enlarged heart due to obesity. He is only 42 when he dies. His body is flown back to Maryland, where he is buried. One of the wreaths at his gravesite is sent by Whoopi Goldberg. It bears the remark: "See what happens when you get good reviews."

Deathiversary: Orson Welles (Oct 10, 1985)

On the evening of October 9, 1985, Orson Welles recorded his final interview on syndicated TV program The Merv Griffin Show, appearing with biographer Barbara Leaming. "Both Welles and Leaming talked of Welles's life, and the segment was a nostalgic interlude," wrote biographer Frank Brady. Welles returned to his house in Hollywood and worked into the early hours typing stage directions for the project he and Gary Graver were planning to shoot at UCLA the following day. Welles died sometime on the morning of October 10, following a heart attack. He was found by his chauffeur at around 10 a.m.

35 Years.

This is a photo of my husband and me with heartthrob Tab Hunter in 2016. Hunter had been with his partner, Allan Glaser, for 35 years when he passed away yesterday, July 8. “We were walking home, and he collapsed in my arms in our front yard," said Glaser. "He said he couldn’t breathe, so I called 911, and we went to the hospital . . . This was sudden and unexpected.” A blood clot caused Hunter to go into cardiac arrest. I hope Glaser finds a little peace in knowing that his and Hunter's relationship has been an inspiration to us. I hope I'm lucky enough to get to spend 35 years with my husband.

Tab Hunter (July 11, 1931 – July 8, 2018)

Rest in power Tab Hunter. 🌈 By chance, I posted a variation of this edit on Saturday. Hunter passed away yesterday, June 8, at the age of 86. His partner calls the death “unexpected and sudden.” This photo is of Hunter sharing a laugh with Sal Mineo and Natalie Wood at the Academy Awards.
